What to wear for Christmas pictures?! I’d be lying if that question wasn’t one that I’ve been mulling over in my mind (and on Pinterest) for months! Family pictures, (that double as Couples pictures when it’s just the two of you, like us) to me feel like they should be a summary of your family, letting each individual’s personality really shine so that in the years to come you can look back and remember what you felt like inside that year. Last year’s pictures, also by Diana Putnam Photography, accurately captured our individual personalities: me decked out in tulle and bling and him in his favorite festive sweatshirt and jeans. I wanted to do the same thing this year! (see how they turned out this year!)
This post will just be out my Christmas pictures outfit, but to read more about how to plan your entire photoshoot for your Christmas Pictures / Family Pictures (location, poses, colors, outfit) or how to plan your Christmas Cards see this post!
So this year I picked the outfit I’ve been wearing non-stop for the past month! A plaid button down shirt from Ross (I drop by Ross at least once a month just to see what hidden treasures they’ve got!), my herringbone vest from Jane.com (from last year), and midnight black leggings from Ooh La Leggings (oh so buttery smooth!). Because of the cool tones in the plaid I wore my cool turquoise hunter boots (purchased second-hand at our last Utah blogger yard sale, from my friend Darling on a Dollar), and a matching navy necklace from Mad Fab, and a pair of super lightweight navy earrings.
Here’s a fun little tip! The “socks” peeking out of my Hunter boots are actually sleeves from an old stretchy shirt! So if you’re at a loss for tall socks that match your outfit, find an old shirt, sweater, make sure the sleeves are big enough to fit around your calves, cut the sleeves off and wear them as boot cuffs! Now you know!
And can we talk about my hair for a sec?! Brittany Sawatzki of Tanglez Hair & Make-up is my new favorite hair stylist in Salt Lake Valley! She has an absolutely adorable in-home salon in Sandy and I’ve already made a habit of swinging by for an appointment before blog photoshoots! (A big thanks to Sandyalamode for referring me to her!)
This puffer vest has a high collar so sometimes I feel a bit stuffy if I wear my hair down with it. (Same reason I don’t like wearing my hair down with a scarf, ahh!) So I knew I wanted to wear my hair a little more out of my face than normal. (I often style this vest with a top knot, red lips, and glasses, which tempted me here too!) I decided to go with a swooping side style that had a part up part down hairstyle feel to it. I wanted it to look pretty from both the sides and the front and to show off my hair length (I’m currently wearing 18″ extensions after getting a much needed trim this summer.) So Brittany created this masterpiece for me! It’s a mix of a fishtail crown that flows into a messy knotted loose side braid that knots and loops around itself a few times throughout the braid. She pieces of left hair down near my face and let it fall long enough I felt like Rapunzel. I’m obsessed!
These bright and beautiful photos were taken by the talented Utah portrait photorapher Diana Putnam Photography. She has an incredible Christmas session deal going on right now, (hint they are only $150!) So hurry and snag a slot before Christmas!
