Lashes are big in Utah. We’ve had past years where our hair was the biggest but now it’s all about the lashes! The wonderful thing about this trend is that everyone can play! Lashes are beautiful on everyone and also attainable too! I’ll take you through my three most preferred methods of bigger bolder lashes, or my 3 tips for instantly longer lashes!
Lash extensions are individual lashes glued to each individual lash! You cannot do these yourself so you nee to find a lash place to get them done. I get mine done at Amazing Lash Studio American Fork (they have lots other locations too!) They are not permanent; they last 2-3 weeks before they need a “fill,” an additional appointment to glue on more lashes since your original lashes naturally shed and the glued lashes fall off. The application process takes an hour or so and is completely relaxing since you just lay there on a massage table with your eyes closed while your lash girl gently glues on each lash. I haven’t fallen asleep before but I just might next time and wake up with big voluminous lashes! See my lash extensions & see how to brush them.
Lash Extensions Details:
Maintenance: Every 2-3 weeks – lash fill appointments every 3 weeks
Cost: High – $80-100 initial full set + $50/fill after that
Where to get them: Amazing Lash Studio
Why I like lash extensions: Wake up in the morning with them done, relaxing application
Why I don’t like lash extensions: Costly maintenance, you can’t rub your eyes, they are hard not to touch.
2. Lash Strips (also known as false lashes or “falsies”)
Lash strips or “falsies” are strips of connected lashes ready to glue onto your eyelid with temporary skin-friendly glue. You can apply these yourself in the mirror as part of your regular eye make-up routine or just on special occasions too. I am really fast at strip lash application now (see the tutorial below by the MUA who taught me.) These come in lots of shapes, sizes, lengths, thicknesses, and styles and can be purchased at just about any drugstore or make-up store. I always pick lashes with tapered ends (slowly go to a point instead of looking chopped) and that have a pretty staggered lash design (not fake and domed like doll eyelashes.) To save money, strip lashes can be reused. Simply take them off your eyelids at night, remove the glue, and store them in something so they won’t get dirty or crushed (plastic toothbrush covers work pretty well!)
Lash Strips Details:
Maintenance: Daily – put them on every day you want them
Cost: Low – $5/pair (drugstores) + $4/bottle of glue
Where to get them: drugstores
Why I like lash strips: Fast application (once you get the hang of it,) lots of styles to choose from and you can switch it up
Why I don’t like lash strips: Can be expensive if you don’t re-use your lashes, sometimes glue is visible, not good for swimming, can come off during the day (though not likely)

3. Lash Fibers
Fiber Mascara is a glue-free method for easy lash volumization on the daily! When I’m not wearing lash extensions or lash strips, I use my regular Voluminous mascara then Younique 3D Fiberlash Mascara to give them more volume. Younique’s 3D Fiberlash Mascara comes in a set of 2 tubes, one is black transplanting gel (similar in consistency to regular mascara) and the other is full of little black fibers with an application wand! Fiberlashes are literally little black fibers that cling to your lashes, building up on top of them, literally making them longer and thicker!
Lash Fiber Mascara Details:
Maintenance: Daily – every day you want them
Cost: Medium – $30/tube set
Where to get it: a Younique seller (my girl is Julia Gervasio)
Why I like lash fiber mascara: Fast application, can layer to easily control simplicity or drama, good for filling in gaps
Why I don’t like lash fiber mascara: Can look clumpy if not careful
Younique 3D Fiberlash Tutorial:
Steps 1 & 2: Curl your lashes & apply your regular mascara like normal
Step 3: Apply the Younique transplanting gel
Step 4: Apply the Younique fiberlashes
Step 5: Apply the gel again to seal them!
Repeat steps 4 & 5 over again until you’ve achieved your desired effect!
