You girls know I love finding modest formal dresses! Now I’ve discovered a treasure trove full of them called Rent the Runway! Where was this when I had prom?! I found and rented this stunning and modest sequin dress to wear to an event last week and I couldn’t be happier with how easy it was, how modest it was, and how beautiful it looked!
Rent the Runway is an amazing site where you can rent designer formal dresses for $75-$450 for any special night you have coming up! Most dresses can be rented for around $150 which is perfect for any bridesmaid dress, prom dress, preference dress, homecoming dress, or fancy birthday dress or anniversary dress! Plus you get 20% off your first order with code FIRSTRTR20P!
I love their site because their search filters work perfectly for filtering dresses that fit your particular dress standards. I set the dress length filter to knee-length and longer and the sleeve length filter to cap sleeve and longer then enjoyed shopping the results, all of which then fit my modesty standards!
I needed a black dress for Altitude Summit’s Thursday Night party. Theme: “Starry Night.” Dress code: black formal dresses. I ended up choosing this modest black sequin dress (Donna Karan New York Black Ruched Sequin Dress.)
I love the popular tight, long-sleeved sequin dress trend I’ve been following on Pinterest over the past year, but I’ve never been able to find one of these dresses longer than mid-thigh (too short for me.) So, I was ecstatic to find this modest sequin dress!

I selected my dress, and a few days later it arrived wrapped in a fancy fabric back like this on my doorstep!
I opted to receive a free second dress in a different size just to make sure one would fit. I’m super glad I did this because it allowed me to easily try them both on and then wear the dress that fit the best!
I’m a little shorter than the model in the picture (I’m 5’3″ but I liked where the hemline of this dress fell on me anyway, at mid-calf. I LOVE the long sleeves on this modest sequin dress, perfect for a winter party like this one! I also love the high neckline that lets you focus on the sparkles and your face instead of your chest! The back zipper has this really fancy diagonal ruching effect all the way down the back which was a nice touch.
I styled this dress simply, adding only rhinestone dangly earrings and black ankle straps so as not to take away from the dress. (These or these black earrings would have been beautiful with it as well!)
Tanning Tip: I applied TanWise 2 days before so that I wouldn’t look like a vampire 🙂 (TanWise is my favorite self tanner: put it on in the evening, then shower 4 hours later before going to bed because as it develops it starts to smell like tanner. Then you’re good to go for the next few days, and continue showering as normal 🙂 I put it on 1-2 times a week if I want to be tan.)
My Alt Mini Party teammates Cami from Worthington Ave and Briana from Life Beats Project wore their Rent the Runway finds as well!
Above, my sister wore her black dress with a Honey Slip underneath since the neckline and shoulder area was sheer lace! Looks absolutely perfect, doesn’t it! A Honey Slip is a nude slip perfect for adding additional coverage where needed. I actually rented another dress for a different night at Alt Summit last week and I wore a Honey Slip with it so I’ll be posting more about these essential pieces soon!
Thanks for reading! Good luck on your own Rent the Runway endeavors! Don’t forget to get 20% off your first order with code FIRSTRTR20P!
