It’s about time I wrote a post about modest shorts! Girls, before I found these cute modest shorts from Journey Five, I thought I hated modest shorts! I dreaded summer because I thought I had to wear crops and pants every day, all because I was simply looking in all the wrong places for modest knee-length shorts! These shorts changed my life, that sounds extreme, but seriously they’ve changed my summers!
I’m a Mormon and I wear sacred temple garments under everything that I wear except for when swimming or doing serious sporting activities. See this post if you are curious about them, but basically garments are sacred reminders of covenants I’ve made, they’re made of white spandex, have capped sleeves, are knee length, and should remain covered at all times. Naturally, summers are hot and as appealingly cool as short shorts may seem, I cannot wear them whist upholding my covenant to wear my temple garments. Hence knee-shorts are ideal, but it can be pretty tricky to find cute ones! These shorts are cute, comfortable, and best of all perfectly modest too!
Let me back up and start from the beginning, these are actually the item of modest clothing that prompted me to start my blog. 3 summers ago I bought these shorts from Journey Five on Jane.com in two colors, mint and coral. I was SO happy with them I posted a picture of me wearing them and gushed about them on my personal instagram account. One of my husband’s friends commented that I was a natural advertiser… and it made me realize, you know what, yes, I am and this is not the audience I should be telling this to! I need to be telling girls, girls who actually want to know where to find cute modest clothing! And behold, my blog was born! All thanks to these shorts 🙂
Journey Five has these same shorts in stock this year too! They are currently available for under $25 in white, olive, yellow, teal, and aqua! I’m going to get myself some new ones! The olive and white are calling my name!
These shorts slide on like leggings, hug like spandex, and look like colored denim. I’m simply in love! They have a super wide elastic waistband, faux front zipper, faux front pockets, and real back pockets. They are just-above-the knee-length shorts and I like how tight they are on my lower thighs. They don’t gape or flap! Like I said I’ve had them for 3 summers now and they’re going strong!
I’ve paired these cute modest shorts with a new favorite casual modest top from Navy Lane Boutique! (that cute shop I got my coral floral dress from!) This top is loose, breezy, striped, has cute fluttery sleeves, and has an adorable pleat in the back! I just love the way it falls and the way the aqua stripe compliments the shorts! I’ve been wearing this outfit on the daily lately. It looks like this exact top has already sold out, but Navy Lane Boutique has lots of other cute similar tops in stock!
I picked up these cute faux suede grayish-tan lace-up flats the other day at Ross (also where I found this bag) and they’ve been compliments right and left! So glad I grabbed them! You might like these similar flats from Navy Lane Boutique!
